This site is all about me, my computers and Big Bertha. Big Bertha is a retired HP Netserver LX Pro. You can find out more about Bertha Here. If you would like to know more about the moron who owns a computer the size of a fridge & then gives it a name, visit my About Me page.
I hope you enjoy your stay & Thanks for visiting!
05/04/2012 - Well, I've been a bit lazy... obviously. I've only just realised I haven't updated this since last year :O
I should say "Happy New Year", but it's probably a bit late for that now lol. The last couple of months have seen me buy more servers and server orientated parts off... you guessed it - eBay. I really should stop browsing that site. To be honest, I didn't spend alot of money, and they were bargains.
What did I get then? Well you can see one of the machines on the 'Computers' page. It's a generation 1 Compaq Proliant DL380. I also got 2x fibre-channel arrays + switch with it. In the same lot was also an HP Proliant generation 4 DL360 - I will upload pics of this later. Finally there were a few SCSI hard drives of varying sizes with caddies. There were some 9.1 and 18.2 gig drives, 2x 36.4 Gb, 2x 72 Gb and 4x 300 Gb drives. All for £140... told you it was a bargain lol.
More recently I've done a bit of spring cleaning on this site, and I've also started a website for a motor scooter I'm about to restore - www.passolapassion.com
That's all for now and I promise not to leave it so long until the next update.
I thought I would take this opportunity to say goodbye to one of my childhood heros. On the 29th October 2011 Sir Jimmy Saville sadly died - he was 85 years old. He will be best remembered for presenting Top Of The Pops and Jim'll Fix It on BBC TV. He also helped to raise alot of money for various charities, and was a regular participant in the London Marathon.
Rest In Peace Sir Jimmy.
30/10/2011 - While having a small sort out recently, I came across some old ISA cards which I forgot I had. They are Cubix QL4222 processor cards and were manufactured approx. 1994. To read more about these boards, visit my Computers page.
I've also mended the Spectrum which I mentioned in my last update (below). The fault was a pair of capacitors that stabilise the voltage for the first 16k of RAM. I also did the composite video conversion aswell :o)
13/10/2011 - Not alot has been happening really, except I've bought yet another Spectrum from eBay (definately the last one). It came boxed with manuals, a boxed ZX Expansion System, ZX Printer in it's polys and a few games. The Spectrum has what looks like a RAM fault, but I haven't got round to looking at it yet.
I did a search on this domain name the other day and I found a website which had taken screenshots since 2005 which is when I started Jimllfixit.net. I decided to reconstruct the original website because my original back up was lost due to a RAID problem on Big Bertha a few years ago.
If you would like to see how this website looked in 2005, just click the STUFF link. I must warn you though, there is alot of MS Frontpage going on, and don't forget, it was my first attempt at website design ;o)
22/08/2011 - Since my last update I've become an Uncle. My nephew Lewis was born on the 25th March :o) I've also been buying more stuff on eBay :/ I'm now the proud owner of 5 more ZX Spectrum's which were all purchased as not working and without their boxes. As it turned out, all five machines had various faults ranging from keyboard membrane faliure, to RAM and ULA faults. There is however one machine that has some major problems. I'm currently trying to revive this one.
Some more good news... I have managed to get hold of some Microdrive units and a couple of Interface 1's. I shall be uploading photo's when these arrive ;o)
I'm also working on a top secret peice of hardware for the ZX Spectrum. It's an idea I've had for a while and as far as I know there isn't anything about that does the same job (for the rubber keyed machine). I will update when I've finished working on the prototype.
Finally, I'm hoping to start running a Guestbook. Look out for a link on the left and don't forget to say hello and sign ;o)
March 2011 - In recent weeks I have been getting back into Electronics. It's been quite a few years since I fiddled with resistors and capacitors, and it's all thanks to my Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Yes, the Spectrum has been dragged out and dusted off due to me watching the repeat of a BBC film called Micro Men. If you're into retro 8-bit micro-computers and you remember the rise & fall of the 1980's computer boom, this film is a 'must watch'!
The last couple of months have also seen me buying a few ZX Spectrum's on eBay, plus various electronics gadgetry such as an Oscilloscope and logic probe to mend my sometimes tempremental 80's electronics.
Finally, in the next few days, I shall be becomming an Uncle & yes, my Nephew has his own Spectrum here waiting for him when he gets a bit older ;o)
That's all for now really, but I will be adding some more stuff on this site in the next few days, so stay tuned & thanks for visiting!
Dec 2010 - Well apart from getting ready for Xmas, I'm currently trying to get an operating system to run on my new project which is a Hewlett Packard Netserver LH Pro. To find out more, click HERE
I'm also hoping to spend a bit more time on this website over the Xmas holidays as I've been a bit lazy keeping things up to date.
Look out for pages featuring info and images of my latest projects, and also any weird and wonderful idea's that I might have at random moments in my life.
Finally, I would like to wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy 2011 :o)
